Attach anything that supports it, if you can
Not required, but it helps: a benefits letter, a payslip, free school meals confirmation, a note from your school. Something to back up what you've written makes for a stronger application and an easier decision. If you can't get hold of anything, say why in your statement — plenty of applicants can't, and we take that into account rather than holding it against you.

Do I have to prove my household income?
Proof isn't required, and there's no form to get signed. But a bursary is assessed on financial need, so anything you can attach that supports what you've described — a benefits letter, a payslip, free school meals confirmation, a note from your school — genuinely strengthens your application. If you can't get hold of any of it, explain why in your statement. Most applicants are 17 or 18 and plenty have no access to household paperwork; that's understood, and an application can still succeed on the strength of what you write.
How many bursaries are there?
There's no fixed quota and no queue to beat, so applying early is no advantage. They aren't automatic though — each one is funded by a paying subscriber, so each one is a real decision made on what the application says.
Is it a limited version of the platform?
No. It's identical to a paid subscription — the same question bank, the same mocks, the same analytics, nothing held back. The only difference is that there's nothing to pay and no card on file.
How long does it last?
One exam cycle. Access runs through the sitting you're preparing for and the weeks after it, so it covers the wait for results rather than stopping the day you sit the paper. The exact end date is shown to you before you apply and again on your account.
What happens to what I write?
It's read by the person making the decision and stored with your application so we have a record of what was decided and why. Anything you attach is stored privately and can only be opened by an administrator who is signed in. None of it is shared, none of it is used for marketing, and none of it appears anywhere on the site. Ask us and we'll delete an attachment. The privacy policy sets out the detail.
What if I'm turned down?
Your free account carries on exactly as it is — 10 questions a day with worked solutions, and the past papers in the simulator. You can apply again if your circumstances change, or if there's more you can tell us or send us. A decision is about one application, not a judgement about you.
I can afford it, but not this month.
Then a bursary probably isn't the right fit — it's meant for households where the cost is genuinely out of reach, and every one granted is paid for by another student.
